Men's Basketball Hosts Olivet College in Nonleague Contest Tuesday

HAMMOND, Ind. -  The Purdue University Calumet men's basketball team will host Olivet College in a nonleague contest Tuesday night at the Fitness and Recreation Center.

Purdue Calumet enters Tuesday’s non-league match with Olivet College coming off its strongest offensive performance of the year after defeating Great Lakes Christian College 82-59 over the weekend.

The Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team used its biggest offensive performance of the season to propel the Peregrines to a 82-59 nonleague win over visiting Great Lakes Christian Saturday at the Fitness and Recreation Center. The Peregrines  snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory, which featured four players in double figures and saw 11 players record at least eight minutes.

Senior Kaspars Brencans (Riga, Latvia/Florida Air Academy) led the way with 21 points in just 16 minutes, shooting 10 of 14 from the floor. Junior Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) added 16 points and 10 rebounds and senior Aaron Davis (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and six assists. Senior Noah Allen (Flora, Ind./Carroll) added 11 points, seven assists and three steals for the Peregrines, who led 44-30 at the break.

The Comets enter Tuesday’s match-up fresh off a 1-2 start to open their 2014-15 campaign. Sophomore forward R.J. Haas leads all scorers for Olivet averaging 11 points per game, while  senior guard DeOndre Callahan is second on the team with 10.3 points per contest and averages 2.0 rebounds per game.

Sophomore big man Danny Paschen is dominating the glass so far this season, ranking in the top 20 in the NAIA in total rebounds per game (9.3) and defensive rebounds per game (6.3) . Junior transfer Ryan Rader has been aggressive on the boards as well, garnering 5.5 defensive rebounds a game ranking him 41st in the NAIA, and averaging just under 7 rebounds per contest.
