HAMMOND, Ind. -- After missing its midweek conference game at Purdue North Central due to severe weather, the Purdue University Calumet men's basketball team will head to Arlington, Ill., for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup at Robert Morris University Saturday.
The Peregrines (8-7, 3-2) will take on the 21st-ranked Eagles (10-7, 4-2) beginning at 3 p.m. in the RMU Athletic and Convocation Center in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's teams.
What’s On Tap
Purdue Calumet has won five of its last six and seven of its last 10 games, including a two-game sweep (wins over Grace Bible and Indiana Northwest) at its home Holiday Hoop Jam Jan. 2-3.
Last Time Out
Junior Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) scored 19 points and recorded a career-high 16 rebounds as the Peregrines defeated Indiana Northwest Jan. 3, 76-55. Senior Noah Allen (Flora, Ind./Carroll) had 14 points and five steals, while Aaron Davis (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) and Duron Ivery (South Bend, Ind./Washington) added 11 points in the victory.
Scouting the Eagles
The No. 21 Eagles are coming off a road loss to Roosevelt University Jan. 7 by the score of 83-71. Alexander Marzette had a double-double in the loss with 32 points and 12 rebounds and Johnny Stevens added 10 points. The Peregrines won the last contest against RMU upsetting the then 12th-ranked Eagles 92-84, in a home matchup Jan. 11, 2014. Senior Kaspars Brencans led the way with 21 points and Noah Allen added 19 points and six assists.
Allen leads the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while Rader adds 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-8 transfer from College of DuPage has also been highly efficient in his scoring, as he ranks second in the CCAC and 10th in NAIA Division II in field goal percentage at 63.9 percent. Senior Kaspars Brencans (Riga, Latvia/Florida Air Academy) adds 12.1 points per game and Davis averages 10.1 points per game to round out Peregrine players in double-figure scoring.
Cleaning the Glass
The Peregrines remain one of the league’s best rebounding teams due to the play of their big men, led by sophomore reserve Danny Paschen (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), who ranks second in the CCAC in rebounds per game (8.8) and offensive boards per contest (3.4). Paschen ranks 13th nationally in offensive boards per contest.
