HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Calumet baseball team will host Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Olivet Nazarene on Tuesday.
The Peregrines (18-8, 11-8 CCAC) will take on the Tigers (24-15, 8-11 CCAC) beginning at 3 p.m. (CT) at Dowling Park. Tuesday's game is the first of a three-game series with ONU, with the series doubleheader set for Wednesday at Dowling Park with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
The entrance to the baseball field is located on 175th street, just west of California Avenue and east of J.F. Mahoney Drive, near the Hammond Fraternal Order of the Police (7527 Kennedy Ave).
Fans are asked to park in the FOP parking lot and handicap parking is available in the lot next to the field.
Admission to all Purdue Calumet baseball games is free.
LAST TIME OUT
The Peregrines are coming off an 8-7 loss to the University of St. Francis (Ill.) April 12. Junior Eric Sickles (Benicia, Calif./Benicia) hit his first home run of the season in the second inning to give the Peregrines the 3-0 lead. John Cristo (Munster, Ind./Munster) and CJ Gear (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) had back-to-back doubles in the third innings to extend the Peregrine's advantage, 6-0. St. Francis was able to respond and tie the game in the eighth inning after a sacrifice fly, followed by a walk-off RBI single by Kyle Cunningham in the ninth to steal the victory.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
The Tigers (24-15, 8-11 CCAC) are coming off two losses to Calumet St. Joseph April 11, 3-2 and 13-6. The Tigers are led by Junior infielder Josh Altmann, Altmann leads the team with a .450 batting average, 54 hits, six home runs and 29 RBI. On the mound, the Tigers are led by sophomore starting-pitcher Dave Cericola who is 6-2 this season with a 3.21 ERA and 45 strikeouts.
The Peregrines are led by junior shortshop Cody Dykema (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) who is hitting .420 with 34 hits and 15 RBI’s. On the mound, starting pitcher Phil Madvek (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) is 5-1 with a 1.41 ERA and 23 strikeouts.
The Tigers lead the all-time series, 2-0. The Tigers took both games of a double header October 19, 2013, 5-3, 13-7. The two games were the first two games in Peregrine baseball history. Starting pitcher Anthony Spangler (Lansing, Ill./T.F South) went four innings allowing three runs and striking out three. Sophomore Cole Garcia (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon) went 5-8 in both games with three runs.
