GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Brendea McNeal (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) led the Purdue University Northwest women's cross country team at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Gainey Athletics Complex as she broke the school record for the 6K race with her time of 23:31.4.
The team finished in 10th place in the 12 team event and finished with a total of 315 points.
"For returning only one individual from the 2017 squad, I am pleased with how our ladies competed," head coach Austin Warner said. "They fought through the entire course despite the muddy conditions. It was fantastic to see Brendea break the school record again and have Angela Gonzalez and Lucy Applemen run some strong races today."
"I am excited to see what the future has in store for this young team in the upcoming years."
Freshman Angela Gonzalez (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) was the next finisher for PNW, crossing the finishing line at 24:54.8 and came in 59th place. Sophomore Lucinda Appelman (Portage, Ind./Portage) ended up coming in 68th place after running a 25:33.
Senior Amanda Baker (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) ran her last race at PNW, finished in 75th place and recorded a time of 26:34.7. Freshman Emily Sarna (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) rounded out the scoring for the Pride, as she came in 78th place and finished with a time of 27:47.8.
