Men's Tennis Travels for Pair of Matches This Weekend

HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team looks to bounce back as the Pride travel for a pair of matches this weekend.

The Pride (1-1) takes on the Hillsdale Chargers (3-0) Friday, February 9 at the Margot V. Biermann Center starting at 11 a.m. CT. 

PNW will then take on the Tiffin Dragons (1-2) Saturday, February 10 at the PM Gillmor Tennis Courts starting at 2 p.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT
Senior Moritz Gisy (Duesseldorf, Germany) and freshman Gregory Kvint (Philadephia, Penn./Lower Moreland) won at No. 1 doubles but it was not enough as the Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team dropped their match against NCAA Division I Eastern Illinois, 7-0, at Park Forest Tennis and Health Club Sunday.

EIU won two out of three matches at doubles competition to go ahead 1-0 going into singles. Gisy and Kvint defeated Eastern Illinois's Gage Kingsmith and Luka Knieling at No. 1 doubles, 7-6.

Kvint almost forced a three-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles but EIU's Gage Kingsmith won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6. Freshman Leon Kah (Munich, Germany/Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium) won four games in each of his sets at No. 2 singles but Eastern's Mike Jensen won back-to-back sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Gisy won four games in the first set at No. 1 singles then three games in the second but Freddie O'Brien was able to come out on top and win 6-4, 6-3. Junior Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) put up a fight at No. 4 singles against EIU's Daniel Hernandez but ulimately fell, 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Dru Kennedy (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) picked up two games in the first set and three in the second but EIU's Gertjan De Wilder won the match at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Hillsdale and PNW have never faced each other.

SERIES HISTORY VS TIFFIN
Tiffin leads the all-time series, 1-0, when the Dragons defeated the Pride last season. Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) won at No. 3 singles for Purdue Northwest, 6-2, 6-1.
