Baseball Drops Pair of Games to Davenport Friday

CALEDONIA, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest baseball team had a tough day on the baseball diamond as the Pride fell behind early in both games and could not recover. Davenport won the first game, which was a seven-inning game, 8-0 and then took the second game in a nine-inning contest, 16-7, at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex, Friday.

GAME 2: DU 16, PNW 7
Davenport jumped out to early lead in the opening inning with a pair of runs to go ahead 2-0. The Panthers erupted for six more runs in the second inning and five in the following frame to have a 13-0 lead.

PNW was able to get on the scoreboard and in a big way, scoring six runs in the fifth inning. John Cory (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) hit an RBI single which scored Anthony Agne (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) helping the Pride start their six-run inning.

Michael Woods (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) ripped an RBI double to right center which scored two runners including Cory and Nathan Lovisa (Granger, Ind./Penn) to make it 13-3 in favor of Davenport. Couple batters later, Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) drove in Lovisa with his RBI single.

Brett Veltema brought in two more runs in the frame by hitting a double to right field, scoring Hunter Thorn (Portage, Ind./Portage) from third and Hilbrich from second, which made it 13-6.

Davenport got one run back in the sixth inning to make it 14-6. Another big inning for the Panthers doomed the Pride after adding two more runs to make it 16-6.

Woods continued his big day at the plate by hitting an RBI single down the right field line which scored Lovisa.

Kyle Flessner (Thomasboro, Ill./Rantoul Township) suffered the loss on the mound for the Pride (1-4), lasting two innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) and striking out three.

GAME 1: DU 8, PNW 0
PNW could not get much done offensively during the first game.

Davenport jumped right out the gate with one run in the first three innings to go ahead 3-0. PNW had a prime scoring opportunity in the top of the sixth with two runners on base and one out but the Panthers were able to get the last two outs to end the damage threat.

DU made would get the game out with five runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to go ahead 8-0.

Agne led PNW at the plate during the game, going 2-3.

Chad Patrick (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) took the loss on the mound (2-3), after going all six innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) and striking out four.
