HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. — The Purdue University Northwest baseball team heads north for their first ever Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament appearance in their second year competing in the conference as the Pride take on Wayne State Thursday.

PNW is coming off their regular season finale when the Pride defeated Ashland, 7-3, at Dowling Park. Alex Batistatos (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) went 7.1 innings, allowing only one earned run, walking three and striking out nine. 

Wayne State went 33-13 this season and 17-10 in the conference in 2019. The Warriors are led this season by Justin Kelly, who is hitting .338, 53 hits, 41 runs scored, 13 doubles, 10 home runs and 49 RBI. On the mound, Wayne State is led by ace, Hunter Brown, who owns a 9-0 record with a 1.82 ERA in 74 innings pitched and recording 100 punchouts on the season.

PNW went 21-25 and 16-12 in the GLIAC this season. The Pride are led at the plate by Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central), who is hitting .355 with 55 hits, 26 runs scored, three triples, two home runs and 25 RBI. Chad Patrick (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) led the pitching staff for the Pride, as the sophomore owned four wins this season with a 3.27 ERA in 55 innings pitched and recording 60 strikeouts.
