HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. - The Purdue University Northwest Athletics Department has surpassed its highest semester grade-point average with the Spring 2019 academic report. The Pride posted a new benchmark semester grade-point average of 3.30.

In addition, PNW Athletics had 23 of its student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 GPA, with 72% percent of student-athletes recording at least a 3.0 GPA. 

Rick Costello, Director of Athletics, said he is so proud of the PNW Pride. 

“The students continue to excel academically and are Students First and Athletes Second!,” Costello said. “I sincerely appreciate the wonderful learning environment created by the Faculty, Staff and Administration and I congratulate the student-athletes on their commitment to academic excellence. Well Done PNW Pride!!”

Julie Wiejak, Interim Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services and Senior Woman’s Administrator, said she is so proud of the effort the student-athletes put forth in the classroom this spring semester.

“Not only do they demand the best of themselves on the court and field but they push themselves to excel in the classroom,” Wiejak said. “I am so grateful to have worked with them this past semester and look forward to a very successful fall semester.”

The Pride women’s basketball team continued their dominance in the classroom, posting the top team grade point average for the Spring 2019 semester with an impressive 3.70 GPA. Women’s Soccer was next with a 3.58 followed closely by volleyball (3.57), men’s tennis (3.54) and softball (3.44).
