HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- Purdue University Northwest student-athletes recorded their highest number of community service hours in program history and recorded a 99.5% participation within the department for the 2018-19 academic year.
As a whole, the department gave back 2879 hours in all 13 sports this year, which is the highest in the history of Purdue Northwest. Last academic year, PNW gave back 2360 hours. In 2016-17, the Pride had 1564 hours of community service.
Softball had the most hours contributed as a team with an astounding 514 hours. Women's Volleyball had the second most with an impressive 398 hours. Women's Soccer ended with 338 hours of service.
All the organizations benefitted are as follows, CARMELITE HOME, UNITED WAY, YMCA, SALVATION ARMY, HOMER ATHLETIC CLUB, SPECIAL OLYMPICS, FOOD BANK, KID’S DAY, PACIFIC GARDENS, AMERICAN RED CROSS, STARWALK, SCIENCE OLYMPIAD, HANDPRINTS FOR HOPE, RDUB CLUB, NURSING HOME, ALEX’S LEMONADE STAND, HUMANE SOCIETY, VETERANS DAY PARADE, JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB, CLOTHING DRIVE and MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION.
