HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue Northwest baseball team won their fourth game in the last five Friday as they took down Wisconsin-Parkside 10-0 in a GLIAC contest. Kyle Flessner got the start and went the complete game, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 Rangers.
After a very quick first three innings, junior Ray Hansen got the scoring started for PNW with an RBI single bringing home Ray Hilbrich. Flessner continued to deal and his offense had a lot of support waiting for him in the bottom of the fifth.
GLIAC batting average leader Hunter Thorn singled in the fifth to bring home Michael Woods. The Pride would load the bases a few batters later and 1B Brett Veltema drew a walk to bring Jarrett Lopez home. Hansen added two more RBI in the fifth, as he doubled with the bases loaded to bring home a pair of runners. Finally, sophomore Anthony Agne got two RBI on a double and the Pride increased their lead to 7-0.
The seventh inning brought a few more insurance runs home for the Pride as Hansen, Woods, and SS John Cory all tallied RBI singles that brought the Black and Gold into double digits for the first time this season.
Flessner ended the day with 138 pitches, a career-high for the senior. It was also his first complete nine-inning game of the season with PNW. The Pride improve to 3-2 in GLIAC conference play, and will host three more games over the weekend against the Rangers.
They’ll be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader, scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. CT.
