HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest baseball team fell behind early and were not able to recover as the Pride dropped the series opener against Ashland, 7-2, at Laborers' Local 41 Field inside Dowling Park, Friday.

Both teams were scoreless in the first three innings with both starters throwing scoreless frames.

Ashland got on the scoreboard first in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run triple to make it 2-0.  The Eagles extended the lead the following inning with an RBI single making it 3-0.

AU doubled their lead with three more runs in the sixth inning expanding their lead to 6-0.

John Cory (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) had an RBI infield single to shortstop which scored Hunter Ryan (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) to cut it to 6-1 in the bottom half of the frame.

Ryan singled to left field that scored Hunter Thorn (Portage, Ind./Portage) making it 6-2 in favor of Ashland.

Ashland got that run right back in the top of the ninth inning as the Eagles went ahead 7-2 as that score would hold.
