Baseball Falls Against Wayne State Thursday; Faces SVSU in Elimination Game Friday

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Purdue University Northwest baseball team was on the wrong end of a walkoff as the Pride dropped their opener in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to Wayne State, 5-4, in 10 innings, Thursday. PNW will now play on Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. CT in an elimination game. 

Anthony Agne (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) hit an RBI single which scored Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) to start off the scoring for PNW in the second inning to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.

Wayne State tied it up at one a piece in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Agne came through again after ripping an RBI single that drove in Kevin McCune (Munster, Ind./Andrean) to make it 2-1 PNW in the fifth inning.

The Warriors rallied and took the 3-2 lead with two runs the following inning in the sixth.

The Pride rallied in the ninth inning with two runs to regain the lead. Hilbrich led off the inning with a single, Hunter Thorn (Portage, Ind./Portage) got hit by the pitch, McCune reached on an error after laying down a bunt.

Hunter Ryan (Hebron, Ind./Hebron) was also able to reach on an error by the second basemen which plated two runs that scored Hilbrich and Thorn for a 4-3 lead advantage. 

WSU responded and tied the game in the bottom half of the frame to force extra innings and free baseball. The next inning in the 10th, the Warriors walked off with an RBI single down the left field line.

PNW will take on the No. 6 seed Saginaw Valley State for an elimination game Friday, May 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. CT.
