HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest men’s basketball team dropped a non-league contest to Grace Bible College Saturday night, 87-70, in the final game of the Domino’s Tip-Off Classic.

The Pride (1-1) were led by sophomores Max Clifford (Franklin, Ind./Roncalli) and Chandler Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) who combined for 34 of the team’s points.

Clifford recorded a career-high 20 points, connecting on four three-point field goals and bringing down three rebounds while Spring scored 14 points and gathered six rebounds.

Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers), Mike Williams (Gary, Ind./Lew Wallace), Lukas Vilkovsky (Kosice, Slovakia/Business Academy) and Jai Wright (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) all recorded seven points apiece to round out the scoring for the Black and Gold.

With just under ten minutes left in the opening half, Purdue Northwest took a 20-12 advantage thanks to a layup from Mike Williams.

Grace Bible would come back to even the score, after a pair of free throws from Joe Dekkenga made it 24-24 with 5:20 left in the half.

The game would remained tied at 30-30 with just over two minutes left, but the Tigers would go on a 7-2 run to end the half and take a 37-32 advantage heading in to the break.

Bernard Smith would help increase the lead for Grace Bible under the 10-minute mark in the final stanza, connecting on a layup to put the Tigers ahead 57-46.

Grace Bible would remain hot from the field for the rest of the half, refusing to let Purdue Northwest back in the game, and coming away with the 87-70 win.

The Tigers were led by Bernard Smith, who recorded a double-double with 23 points and 19 rebounds while Austin Jackson recorded 17 points and seven rebounds.

PNW returns to action Friday, Nov. 4, when they host Taylor University in the opening round of the Tip-Off Classic in Westville, Ind. at the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex.
