HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University men’s basketball team picked up an 83-72 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Roosevelt University Saturday afternoon.
The Pride (11-12, 9-6 CCAC) picked up its fourth-straight CCAC victory with its win over the Lakers (10-14, 6-9 CCAC), after outrebounding RU 40-30, including 15 offensive rebounds.
Junior Torrance Johnson (Chicago Heights, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) picked up his 14th, double-double of the season, pouring in 23 points while bringing down 12 rebounds with four assists.
Tyree Coe (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) added 17 points with a trio of three-point field goals, while Chandler Spring (Covington, Ind./Covington) recorded 16 points with four trifectas.
Senior Cyril Lewis (Houston, Texas/Virginia Union) chipped in with 14 points including seven rebounds while Mike Williams (Gary, Ind./Lew Wallace) came off the bench and scored 13 points to round out the leaders for the Black and Gold.
PNW came out of the gates hot, jumping out to a 7-0 run early on in the first half, before extending its lead to 11-6 with 16:02 left in the period.
The Black and Gold would storm out on a 13-0 run to take a commanding 23-6 advantage with 13:42 remaining.
PNW would hold on to its double-digit lead for the rest of the half, taking a 45-32 lead heading in to the break.
Roosevelt would cut in to its deficit and get within single-digits, but the Pride would continue fight and keep its large lead for the remainder of the game.
PNW would hold on in the final minutes of the contest and come away with the 83-72 victory.
The Pride shot 40 percent from beyond the arc on the day, compared to just 26.3 percent from the Lakers.
Purdue Northwest will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 1, when the Pride take on Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill. Tip-off is set for 8:15 pm (CT).
