HAMMOND, Ind., & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- After advancing through the first two rounds as the No. 1 seed, Purdue Northwest's Leo is competing for a spot in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Mascot Challenge finals starting at 8 a.m. CT Thursday.
Trinity Christian's Troll captured the conference's first automatic bid to the NAIA Mascot Challenge, a social media based challenge instituted this season. After the initial round Feb. 3, Leo recorded the second-most social votes to get the No. 1 seed and dominated its head-to-head quarterfinal round Feb. 7 to top Roosevelt’s Fala.
Leo will face the No. 4 seed, Judson’s A.J., in the Twitter arena for 24 hours, as the voting will close at 8 a.m. CT on Friday.
Should Leo advance, he will face the winner of 2-seed Olivet Nazarene and 5-seed Holy Cross, set for Feb. 21-23. The overall winner of the CCAC bracket will advance to the NAIA National Mascot Challenge to take place during the men’s and women’s basketball national championship tournaments.
