YORKTOWN, Ind. – The PNW Men’s Golf team started off the 2019-20 season at the Taylor University Players Club Invitational, taking 3rd place after two days of play with a score of 606.
“The guys were a little rusty on round one,” said Head Coach Randy Wexter. “We made some mental mistakes during day one but improved day two. It was good to see Alex Bishop break par. I am excited to see how low we can go as a team this fall.”
Sophomore Alex Bishop (Litchfield, Ill./Litchfield)led the charge for the Pride, finishing 5thoverall shooting 74 on day one and finishing one stroke under par with a 71 on day two. Seniors Payton Smith (Cedar Lake, Ind./Handover) and Brian Brzycki (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) finished sixth and 26th respectively, Smith shooting a 72 on round one and a 74 on round two and Brzycki taking a 75 and a 79. Junior Jake Nietfeldt (Peotone, Ill./Peotone)shot an 85 on day one and a 76 on day two while sophomore Mitch Hutson (Kankakee, Ill./Peotone)took an 86 and an 82.
Tournament hosts Taylor University went on to claim the tournament title after shooting a score of 581.
The Pride will return to action on September 30th at the Lewis University Invitational in Lemont, Ill.
