DES MOINES, Iowa - The Purdue University Calumet men's soccer team fell behind early and could not recover, as it dropped its second-straight match with a 5-1 loss to the American Institute of Business. The Peregrines fall to 1-3 on the season with the defeat.
AIB pulled out to a 2-0 advantage in the first half, as Isaac Ellis and Jaciel Perez each scored. The Eagles pushed their lead to 4-0 with a pair of goals by Hasib Stitkovac in the 61st and 63rd minutes, before Purdue Calumet answered with Andres Ayala's score just a few minutes later. However, the Black and Gold were unable to trim the deficit any more, as Nolan Defour closed out the scoring with a tally off a free kick in the 80th minute.
PUC was outshot 27-14 in the match, as Papa Otoo led the Peregrines with four shots on the day. Tom Spillman (1-3) took the loss after giving up four goals to go along with his six saves, while Juan Guevara surrendered the final goal and recorded two saves in his collegiate debut.
Purdue Calumet will return to action this Saturday, September 15, when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a rematch with Concordia University. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. CST.
