DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Purdue University Calumet men's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end with a 4-0 loss to Clarke University on Saturday afternoon. The Peregrines fall to 3-6 overall with the defeat.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the opening 40 minutes of the contest, before Clarke's Aaron Calkins scored twice in the final five minutes to hand the Crusaders a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Keeper Tom Spillman and the PUC defense withstood an onslaught of shots in the final stanza, as Spillman recorded five saves on 15 shot attempts by Clarke in the first 35 minutes of the period to keep the deficit at two goals. However, Calkins would tally two more scores in the final 10 minutes to put the match out of reach.
Purdue Calumet will face Lawrence Tech in an exhibition contest tomorrow, October 7, before taking on Viterbo on October 13.
