Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw With St. Ambrose

HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer team battled with St. Ambrose University on the road Tuesday, and ended with a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

The Peregrines (10-2-2, 6-2-1 CCAC) tied the Fighting Bees (6-7-1, 4-4-1 CCAC) at the Davenport Soccer Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Towards the end of the first half, Saint Ambrose recorded the first goal of the match on a corner kick from Ross Hendry to Michael Ohioze who notched his ninth goal of season to give the Fighting Bees a 1-0 advantage heading in to the break.

The Peregrines would answer back in the 78th minute, after a pass from Zac Doepke (Troy, Mich./Troy) to senior forward Papa Otoo (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River), who found the back of the net to tie the match 1-1.

That would be all the scoring for the rest of the match, as both teams stopped any offensive chances for the remainder of regulation and both overtime periods.

Sophomore keeper Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) recorded eight saves in 110 minutes in the draw.

The Peregrines outshot the Fighting Bees 17-16, with Nico Monteiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, IBMEC) leading all players with six shots, three of them being on goal.

The Peregrines return to action Saturday, Oct. 24, as they host CCAC opponent Holy Cross at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field at 2:30 p.m. CT.
