Softball Falls to Davenport in Doubleheader

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Purdue University Northwest softball team fell to Davenport University in both games Tuesday afternoon. Dropping the first game, 4-2 before losing 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap.

GAME 1: Davenport 4, PNW 2

After the Panthers went up 2-0 heading in to the fourth inning, PNW got a run back thanks to a sacrifice fly from Taylor Kotzo (Munster, Ind./Munster) who plated Kalyn Learnard (Fairmount, Ill./Catlin) after she doubled to start the inning.

Davenport would get that run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Pride would fight back in the sixth thanks to a solo homer from Madison Schultz (Lafayette, Ind./Faith Christian) to make it 3-2.

DU would respond with a home run of their own and shut down the Pride the rest of the way to win, 4-2.

GAME 2: Davenport 3, PNW 2 (Eight Innings)

Schultz started the game off on a high note, crushing her second home run of the day bringing in Heather O’Kelly (Worth, Ill./Shepard) making it 2-0 early in the first inning.

Davenport would score one run in the second and one in the sixth to even the score at two runs apiece.

It took extra innings but the Panthers came up on top scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the 3-2 victory.

PNW returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a pair of games against Grand Valley State beginning at 2:30 pm (CST).
