Softball Splits With Ashland Saturday

ASHLAND, Ohio – Purdue University Northwest softball split a pair of games to Ashland University Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: PNW 5, Ashland 0

The Pride jumped on the scoreboard early, thanks to a pair of RBI-singles from Zoee Anderson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jefferson) and Amanda Noblett (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) who gave the Pride a 2-0 advantage.

Anderson added to the Pride’s lead with an RBI-double that plated Heather O’Kelly (Worth, Ill./Shepard) followed by another RBI-double from Noblett and a sac bunt from Taylor Mendenhall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) that scored Noblett to increase PNW’s lead to 5-0.

Sophomore pitcher Courtney Blackwell (Whiting, Ind./Whiting) shut down the Eagles earning the win in the circle, allowing six hits and no runs with three strikeouts.

Game 2: Ashland 7, PNW 3

After the Eagles took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, Heather O’Kelly was able to even the score on a solo home run in the top half of the third.

Ashland would put together a 6-run third to take a 7-1 lead and pull away from the Pride.

Junior Emma Hendricks (Henryville, Ind./Henryville) would connect on a two-run homer scoring Shailen Johnson (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) in the top of the 7th, but the Eagles would close it out to record the split.

The Pride will face off with Northwood University Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for a doubleheader beginning at 1pm (CST) at Dowling Park.
