HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Calumet volleyball team faced a traditional Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference heavyweight for the second-straight match, falling to Olivet Nazarene, 3-0, at the Fitness and Recreation Center on Tuesday night. The Peregrines slide to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the defeat.
Purdue Calumet came out firing in the opening set of the match, battling the Tigers point-for-point as a Ashley Eaves, Maria Frebis and LaTiana Harris combined for seven kills early on. However, the Black and Gold hit a dry spell midway through the set, as ONU finished the frame on a decisive 10-3 run to claim the win.
Olivet Nazarene continued to pour it on in the final two sets en route to the victory, as PUC struggled with a -.071 attack percentage in those sets. The Peregrines fall to 0-4 this season when only playing three sets.
Eaves and Harris each tallied seven kills to lead the way for Purdue Calumet, while Frebis added three on the night. Jordin Ashburn notched 15 assists and Sarah Lawson posted a match-high 16 digs.
The Black and Gold will turn around and travel up Indianapolis Boulevard for a conference match with local rival Calumet St. Joseph this Thursday, September 20. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
