HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team begins their 2018-19 season for the Cross Conference Classic this weekend at the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on Purdue Northwest's Westville Campus.
PNW will take on McKendree at 5 p.m. on Friday, then will take on Illinois-Springfield at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Friday, November 9
McKendree vs. PNW; 5 p.m.
Illinois-Springfield vs. Tiffin; 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 10
Tiffin vs. McKendree; 1 p.m.
Illinois-Springfield vs. Purdue Northwest; 3 p.m.
The Purdue University Northwest women’s basketball team will begin their second year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. PNW brings back leading scorer Shae Rhonehouse, who averaged 10.8 points per game.
McKendree went 12-14 last season and 8-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats bring back Jordan Heberg, who averaged 12.4 ppg.
Tiffin begins their first year in the Great Midwest Collegiate Conference after being in the GLIAC. The Dragons went 9-19 a season ago. Allie Miller returns for her junior season who was the leading scorer and rebounder. Miller averaged 15.4 ppg and 6 rebounds per game.
lllinois-Springfield is coming off a 13-13 season and 7-11 in the GLVC. The Prairie Stars bring back Jasmine Sangster, who averaged 10.2 ppg.
PNW RETURNING PLAYERS
At the guard position, the Pride are deep, with seniors Michaela Kikendall (Morristown, Ind./Morristown) and Kaylee Hardy (Saranac, Mich./Saranac), juniors Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) and Bayley Goodman (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central). Sophomores Tayler Vauters (Rockville, Ind./Riverton Parke), Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) and Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) all return to bring experience.
PNW women's basketball welcomes five new additions to the program. Karissa Hucke (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Brittany Barnard (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo), Kelli Damman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll), Molly DeValkenaere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield), Grace Ringel (South Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) all look to make immediate impact in their first year on the team.
The Pride are set to play their 2018-19 home slate at both the Fitness and Recreation Center on the Hammond, Ind. campus and at the H.L. Kesling Gymnasium in the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on the Westville, Ind. campus, as they will host opponents McKendree (Nov. 9/DSSAC), Illinois-Springfield (Nov.10/DSSAC), Lewis (Nov. 20/FNRC), Davenport (Nov. 29/DSSAC), Grand Valley State (Dec. 1/FNRC), Indianapolis (Dec. 15/FRNC), Saginaw Valley State (Jan. 3/DSSAC), Wayne State (Jan. 10/FNRC), Ashland (Jan. 12/DSSAC), Northern Michigan (Jan. 31/FRNC), Michigan Tech (Feb. 2/DSSAC), Ferris State (Feb. 21/FNRC), Lake Superior State (Feb. 23/DSSAC) and Parkside (Feb. 28/FNRC).
Admission for all Pride basketball home contests is $6 for adults 18 and up and $4 for children ages 4-17. Children ages 3 and under are free. The ticket office accepts cash only.
