Women's Basketball Shows Positive Signs For Future in Season Finale Thursday

HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's basketball team put up a fight and showed positive signs as the Pride suffered a setback, 68-54, on Senior Night, at John Friend Court inside the Fitness and Recreation Center, Thursday.

Sophomore Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) recorded her first career double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Junior Bayley Goodman (Fowler, Ind./Benton Central) led the Pride in scoring as she added 18 points in the setback.

Senior Kaylee Hardy (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.

Parkside jumped out to a 9-3 lead early in the game before Goodman nailed a three-pointer to make it 9-6 with 4:52 left in the first quarter. The Rangers expanded on their lead and went up 15-8 after the opening period.

PNW scored the first six points of the second period with a trifecta by Goodman and junior Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) made an and one that cut it to 15-14 at the 8:11 mark in the second quarter. Both teams traded three-pointers and Parkside led 18-17 with 7:26 left in the first half. 

The Rangers responded with an 10-0 run towards the end of the second period before Allen and sophomore Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) ended the Pride drought with back-to-back layups to make it 28-21 with 10 seconds left in the half.

Goodman started the second half hitting three trifectas in a row to give PNW a 30-28 lead. Parkside would tie it momentarily at 30-30 before Rhonehouse nailed a three-pointer of her own and freshman Molly DeValkenaere (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield) made a jumpshot which gave the Pride a 35-30 lead with 6:25 left in the third period. 

However, the Rangers had the answer scoring eight unanswered points to go back ahead 38-35 at the 4:00 mark in the third quarter. Back-to-back buckets by Nennig and DeValkenaere gave PNW back the lead. With both teams tied at 43 with 1:21 left in the third period, Parkside scored six in a row to go up 49-43 going into the final period.

After Parkside made a three-pointer to go up by nine to start the fourth quarter. PNW scored five straight to make it 52-48 Parkside with 7:28 left in the game after that the fourth period was all Parkside going on an 18-6 run in the remainder of the game to win 68-54. 

PNW concludes their 2018-19 season with a 3-23 record and 1-19 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with their second season in the GLIAC.
