HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest cross-country teams return to action Friday as the Pride host the PNW Fall 5K Classic at the Westville Campus starting at 5 p.m. CT.
The women's race will start at 5 p.m. with the men's to follow which will start at approximately 5:30 p.m. CT.
The meet will take place at the PNW Cross Country Course located behind the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on the Westville Campus. Admission to the event is free.
MEN'S LAST TIME OUT
The men's team is coming off a fifth-place finish at the USF Twlight Invitational Friday, Sept. 1. Four of the newcomers had success on Friday. Freshman Adam Joseph (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) led the way for PNW, finishing in fifth place with a time of 16:09. Salvador Cordova (Hammond, Ind./Bishop Noll) was the next finisher behind Joseph, as he finished in 24th place at 16:13. Osvaldo Gonzalez (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) had a time of 16:52 (35th), while Ruben Gonzalez (Hammond, Ind./Hammond) ran a 16:58 (37th). Cristian Zendejas finished in 40th place and had a time of 17:26.
WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT
The women's team is also coming off a fifth-place finish at the USF Twlight Invitational Friday Sept. 1. Freshman Jennifer Crague (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) led the way for the Pride, running at a time of 19:32 and finishing in 19th place. Allison Tokarz (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) was the next finisher for PNW, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 20:17, Right behind Tokarz was Lucy Appelman (Portage, Ind./Portage), who finished in 24th at 20:24. Senior Shyla Huppenthal (Boulder, Colo./Northglenn) was the next PNW runner to cross the finish line with a time of 21:08 for 28th place overall.
Moriane Valley CC, Robert Morris, Indiana South Bend, Ancilla, PNW will all be participating in the 5K race.
The Pride compete in five remaining meets this fall, including Friday's. These include: the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships (Sept. 15) in West Lafayette, Ind.; the Olde English Classic (Sept. 23) in Beloit, Wis.; the Greater Louisville Classic (Sept. 30) in Louisville, Ky.; the Walt Disney Classic (Oct. 7) in Orlando, Fla.
The GLIAC Championships, held in Marquette, Mich., are set for Saturday, Oct. 21.
