HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest women's and men's golf team travels for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships set to begin Friday and runs until Sunday.
The men's tournament will begin at 9 a.m. CT at Bedford Valley Country Club Friday.
The women's tournament will take place at Stonehedge Golf Club starting at 1 p.m. CT. Friday.
MEN'S LAST TIME OUT
The Purdue University Northwest men's golf team finished in sixth place at the Kentucky Wesleyan College Invitational that took place on Sunday and Monday at the Pearl Club. The team had a total of 610 team points during the two-day event.
The Pride had two people finish in top 20 including one in the top 5 and there was a total of 56 participants. Jacob Plummer (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria Community) led the Pride with a two-round score of 143, after shooting a 71 in the first round and a 72 during the final round.
Chase Picken (Manito, Ill./Midwest Central) cut his final round score by four strokes after hitting a 74 during the second day to give him a two-round score of 152 which landed him tied for 13th place. Ryan Wells (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) improved five strokes from his opening round and shot a 76 on the second day to give him a score of 76.
Brian Brzycki (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) recorded a 80 during both rounds which landed him in 35th place with a total score of 160. Peyton Smith (Cedar Lake, Ind./Hanover Central) rounded out the scoring for PNW after shooting a two-round total of 162 which landed him tied for 36th place.
WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT
Purdue Northwest sophomore women’s golfer Libby Huston tied a school record Monday with a single-round 78 as she finished the first round of the Cougar Classic in second place overall. Her effort gave her a five over par, just four shots behind Breanna Nowak of IU-East.
The Pride finished in third place overall at the conclusion of the first round, which had been postponed due to weather from Sunday’s scheduled start. Lauren Bailey, who previously held the single-round PNW record, was next in the individual standings, as she was in a tie for 14thplace with an 88.
Sophomore Candace Chandler rounded out the group for the Pride, as she ended up in a tie for 26th after shooting a 93 (+20).
Huston’s impressive showing now puts her in a tie for the best score at Purdue Northwest, a mark Bailey set at the Saginaw Valley State Invite on September 23, 2017. That event was held at Bay City Country Club in Bay City, Michigan.
