Tennis Teams Host Midland (Neb.) Sunday

HAMMOND, Ind. & WESTVILLE, Ind. -- The Purdue University Northwest men's and women's tennis teams will host Midland (Neb.) at Match Point Tennis and Fitness Club in Griffith, Ind. on Sunday.

MEN'S 
The Warriors (4-4) take on the Pride (2-5) starting at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday. 

WOMEN'S 
Midland (1-5) takes on PNW starting at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday as well.

LAST TIME OUT MEN'S 
Sophomore Leon Kah (Munich, Germany) was victorious at No. 2 singles and senior Mauricio Villacres (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and junior Jonluke Passett (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandberg) won at No. 3 doubles but it was not enough as the Purdue University Northwest men's tennis team dropped a match to Illinois-Springfield, 6-1, at Park Forest Tennis and Health Club Saturday.

UIS won two out of the three doubles matches to start the match, 1-0.  Villacres and Passett picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles against Alex Chan and Oscar Toro, 6-3. Kah and sophomore Dru Kennedy (LaPorte, Ind./LaPorte) won three games at No. 2 doubles but UIS’s Logan Burgess Hayes and Matthew Lapsley won the match, 6-3.

Kah defeated Tommy Martinez at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

 

LAST TIME OUT WOMEN'S 
The Purdue University Northwest women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 contest to Hillsdale College at the Margot V. Biermann Center on Sunday.

The Chargers (5-0) started the match sweeping all three doubles matches against the Pride (3-13) to start the match to go ahead 1-0. PNW tried to get back into the match in singles competition but Hillsdale captured the match at that point.

Freshman Patricia Dizon (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viator) almost forced a three-set tiebreaker but Hillsdale's Halle Hyman won the match, 6-2, 7-5. Sophomore Lena van Bergen (Wesel, Germany) nearly won the first set but Hillsdale's Sarah Hackman came out on top and won 7-5 and took the second, 6-0.
